Pressure PDF Print E-mail

My assistant told me that she was going to scream if I didn’t write this blurb. Pressure! My SUV was totaled, and I had to buy a new car. Pressure! New Year, new plans, new possibilities—pressure, pressure, pressure!

What Is Love? PDF Print E-mail

By Pat Harrison, President and Founder

As the New Year begins, I always take time to ask the Lord what He wants me to minister. I pray for revelation, instruction, and direction. As the leader of FCF International, I need to be led by God so that I will minister a message to the churches that brings them into the direction and flow that God desires.

I am impressed to minister this year on love. Several years ago, I did a message titled “God’s Glory—God’s Love.” In that message I stated that if we do not walk in love and act in love, we will not see the glory of God. With that statement as our premise, this month I want to share a fundamental truth about love.

Presence Is Power PDF Print E-mail

By Buddy Harrison, Co-Founder

When our grandchildren were younger and we would all go to a fine restaurant, our daughters always told the grandkids, “Restaurant rules apply.” And the grandkids knew exactly what their mothers meant. They knew that they could not act the same way in the restaurant as they did at home. Certain behavior would not be tolerated. Therefore, the grandkids had to adjust their behavior.

Why did restaurant rules apply? Because of the presence of other people. My daughters didn’t want their children doing anything that would disturb or offend the other patrons. The presence of those other patrons had power over the behavior of my grandkids.

Finding Common Ground PDF Print E-mail

By Lonnie Hilton, National Director & International Vice President

While we admire the Lone Ranger for his heroic deeds in promoting truth and justice, living without relationships is dangerous and denies our God-given need for community and covenant. Being a part of our FCF family provides ministers with opportunities to meet other ministers and build relationships. These covenant connections provide the foundation for future personal development and are an important component of one of our core values: emphasizing family.

In his article, Virgil Stokes shows us how to develop these vital relationships.

Articles of Faith: Pneumaholics Phenomenous PDF Print E-mail

By Dr. Cornelius May

Hi! My name is Neal. I am a Pneumaholic. Pneuma, of course, is the Greek word for Spirit or wind. I admit it openly. I love the Holy Spirit, am addicted to His ways, and am desperate to hear His voice and feel His touch.

Does addiction seem too strong an idiom? If the household of Stephanus was addicted to the ministry of the saints (cf. I Cor. 16:15), how much more should we be to the same Spirit who amen’d their  very desire?  Once you have experienced Him, you must have more and more of His captivating Presence.  His intricate influence dominates Scripture from beginning to end, yet for many current readers, it is a walk in the valley of “dry bones.” Why the discrepancy?

Care—An Important Part of Missions
By Gail Buse, International Ambassador

In November I had the privilege of participating in a wonderful event in Delaware that I want to share with you. The event began with a person who stepped out of the box and dared to do something huge, something that seemed impossible.

I was blessed to see the heart of FCF displayed in what took place. As an organization, one of our core values is covenant relationship. Kathy Beers rose to a challenge that brought personal growth and enriched the lives of all those who caught the vision with her.

For years Bob and I have shared these simple steps that engage every believer in world missions: Prayer, Care, and Going There. This article is about the love of family and the care that flows so willingly to demonstrate covenant.

Are You Too Busy? PDF Print E-mail

Gary DeVoe, Media Director

ebay—what a wonderful world! A unlimited supply of unwanted junk that has been revived and is useful once again. You need it? Someone on ebay has it. You just have to surf to find it.

It seems as the world is ever finding, refining, and honing its skills to keep us busy with anything other than spending time with God. Sports, hunting, movies, television, Facebook, ebay, YouTube, iPhone, iPad, iPod—the ways to spend your time are ever expanding. Opportunities for distraction abound.

What is Love? Part II PDF Print E-mail

By Pat Harrison, President & Founder

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. –1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NKJV

How Big Is Your Appetite for God? PDF Print E-mail

By Buddy Harrison, Co-Founder

Sent to all employees, a company memo read, “To get ahead in this organization, you’ve got to do more than show up to work. We need to see enthusiasm for what you do. Start getting excited about getting up in the morning. Have enthusiastic times with your family, and for goodness sake, do everything on your job with enthusiasm.”

Three days later, one of the employees showed up two hours late for work. looking at her watch, the supervisor asked, “Is this what you consider coming to work enthusiastically?”

Helping You Fulfill the Vision and Call God Has Given PDF Print E-mail

By Lonnie Hilton, National Director & International Vice President

The credential renewal process for 2011 has ended. On the renewal, you were asked, “How did FCF International contribute to your life and ministry in 2010?” As I reviewed your responses, I was very blessed to know that we have been helping you to fulfill the vision and call God has given you. These answers are examples of the value you have placed on this organization that we call home/family. I trust that these responses will bless you as much as they blessed me.

Social Media In Ministry PDF Print E-mail

By JP Jones

In ministry, as with any other 'business' it's vital to communicate with your constituents. The good news is, that's where social media flourishes. Thanks to social media, ministries no longer have to spend thousands of dollars on postage, phone calls and other 'touches' to their followers. Instead, connecting with their partner base is an easy as a few lines on Facebook or Twitter.

Articles of Faith: He's Reigning, He's Pouring PDF Print E-mail

By Dr. Cornelius May

I was watching some late night TV when suddenly I heard the words inside my being:  “If You can move mountains, you can move me.  I open my heart, I bow my knee.  If You can move mountains, You can move me, Holy Spirit come and wash over me, O please.”

As an old rock n’ roller, I quickly recognized the unfolding verbiage to be the words to a song.  I have not played guitar in decades, nor even written something in a long, long time.  It was a song of the Spirit, speaking to me in my hour of need, but others as well, through the medicine of melody.

It’s Greek to Me PDF Print E-mail

“And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” –John 1:16–18 NKJV

Sustain: Changing the World One Life at a Time PDF Print E-mail

By Gail Buse, International Ambassador

Last month I shared about an event that took place at New Life Christian Fellowship (Wilmington, DE) hosted by FCF Pastors Ernie and Kathy Beers. Kathy was challenged to do something big that would stretch her faith and bring personal growth. She accepted the challenge to bring the original missionaries from New Life back together for a time of refreshing. As this project developed, Kathy realized that it was bigger than herself. It was a wonderful example of “Sustain” from our Mission Strategy and an opportunity to foster partnership among other FCF churches.

Who’s King of the Hill? PDF Print E-mail

By Gary DeVoe, Media Director

During the last week of January, Oklahoma suffered a blizzard of historic proportions. In Tulsa we had twelve inches of snow in a twenty-four period with high winds that produced huge drifts. Two days later, we had another four inches of snow. Now that may not seem like a big deal for those of you who live in the north, but it meant disaster for the ill-equipped buckle of the Bible belt.

Love, the Mature Kind PDF Print E-mail

By Pat Harrison, President & Founder

I remember the story of a man who took his family to Yellowstone National Park. Of course, the highlight of any trip to Yellowstone is seeing Old Faithful. This family was in the dining room of the inn that overlooks Old Faithful. When the clocked ticked to one minute before the next eruption, everyone in the dining room rushed to the window to see the great sight. There were “oohs” and “ahs” as the geyser was captured on camera and video. Applause broke out and smiles were shared at this powerful display of nature. But when the father looked back into the dining room, he noticed that not one bus boy, waiter, or waitress had bothered to rush to the window and look. Old Faithful had become so familiar to them that it had lost its power to impress.

Unlock the Power PDF Print E-mail

By Buddy Harrison, Co-Founder

For years, people have had a misconception about power. They think, It’s evil to seek after power. But that can’t be right because Jesus said, “All power I give to you” (Luke 10:19). If Jesus has given power to us, then there isn’t anything evil about power. Otherwise, He wouldn’t have given it to us because He gives only good and perfect gifts.

Changing This Generation PDF Print E-mail

By Lonnie Hilton, National Director & International Vice President

In the September/October 2009 issue of Outreach magazine, author Rob Wilkins wrote, “Two out of every three high school students will leave the church after graduation.” That is not what God desires. A healthy, growing church needs effective children’s and youth ministries. However, many pastors and youth ministers wonder what they can do to have an impact on future generations, particularly when they lack finances. Youth Minister Jon Coats asked the Lord for some answers about reaching youth. His article outlines the Lord’s answer and  gives hope to the “average” American church because neither size nor money determine effectiveness.

Articles of Faith PDF Print E-mail

In the literary classic by Eleanor Porter, a little orphan girl moves in with her spinster “set-in her-ways” maiden aunt.  Disney brought this tug-at-your-heartstrings classic to the big screen, starring a blast from the past, Haley Mills.  The heroine, Pollyanna, possessed an overflowing optimism in spite of the death of her missionary parents.  Her contagious sunny disposition influenced an entire village.

Adjust and Thrive

Gary DeVoe, Media Director

“Fall back, spring forward,” adjust the clock, adjust the body—it’s all part of the yearly ritual. But as I age, the time between the events seems shorter and shorter. I had just gotten used to “falling back” when I had to “spring forward,” or I have sprung back and it’s now time to fall forward? Either way, we have to deal with time and seasons.
