Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. . . Yes, I know that is for a wedding, but it will also work for a new year of Mentor Pack. Why?
Something old is communication. As long as people have gathered, they communicate. Something new is our format—no more paper and ink—just a CPU and monitor.

It’s a New Year! As I was preparing to write you, I began thinking about that.
In a recent directors’ meeting, our Media Director Gary DeVoe quoted the author Mark Twain: “History does not repeat itself as much as it rhymes.”
I thought about that as I contemplated this New Year. Most of us, myself included, tend to learn from our mistakes. Yet, we also tend to repeat those mistakes from time to time. But as Mark Twain indicated, it’s not so much that we repeat them as that we come close to them—rhyming if you will—by accident or by lack of attention to details.

Every purpose in life has an ultimate goal. The ultimate goal of a baseball team is to get runners across home plate. Does a team quit when a player makes it to first or third base? They will cheer because they want the runner to round the bases and score. At the end of the game, the fans and the team are more concerned about the number of players who scored than they are concerned about the number of hits. If a baseball team does not understand that part of its purpose is to score, then they will pat themselves on the back when they just get base-runs.

Bob Buse, International Director It’s a new year, a fresh beginning, which we enter with great expectations in God. While we look forward, let us also take a look back to our beginning.
FCF International began with a mandate from God: “Go back to Tulsa, start a family church, a charismatic teaching center and reach the world.” Our destiny as a ministry was set from that moment. At the same time, we received both our beginning and our future – reach the world. Tags: church | God | missions

Pat HarrisonFounder & President New Year’s resolutions are always a potential opportunity for self-defeat. Sincerely and honestly, the resolutions are made. Then you can turn around and dismiss each one with a “who-cares?” shrug.
So let’s implement six exercises to help sustain the momentum to go for the “goals” in 2009. Tags: leadership | motivate | vision

By Arden C. Autry, PhD “Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? For when one says, ‘I follow Paul,’ and another, ‘I follow Apollos,’ are you not mere men?” —1 Corinthians 3:1-4 NIV

By Gary DeVoe,Media Director Much ado was made in the last election about the waste of time, treasure (money), and blood (lives) lost in an unpopular war. These sentiments were fodder for the political cannons. Each side pointed the finger of blame and condemnation.
Now the rallying cry is “Crisis!” We have a healthcare crisis, a banking crisis, an environmental crisis, and so on and on. Tags: article | God | leadsership

Last month I had the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. I was delighted to be with a pastor whom I had laid hands on for ordination more than twenty years ago. He now oversees a dynamic church in the capital city of Santo Domingo. Pastor Juan was a young, single man when I first met him. He is now married to a lovely woman, and they have three teenage sons who are all serving the Lord. His testimony of faithfulness blessed me greatly, but that’s not the best part of this story.

By Ronnie Caldwell Peaceable Kingdom Ministry to Children Have you ever gone bowling with someone who only throws gutter balls? In the beginning it was funny. But once you realize that's all they got, then you will soon be looking for someone else to take bowling.
In children's ministries we have a tendency to "throw gutter balls" because we never change the routine. In my training dvds, "Staying out of Routine Ruts" and "Creative Song Services," I give you lots of ideas on how to stay out of ruts. Here are some of them. Tags: article | children | ministry

Normally I enjoy preaching and jump at the chance to minister the Word. But in October 2003, I had to minister a message at a very difficult time. My wife and I were in Rogers, Arkansas, for some fellowship with FCF pastors and area representatives Buddy and Amy Gastineau.

By Lonnie Hilton, National Director & International Vice President Much attention has been given to the world’s economy over the past several months. As a result, many people have yielded to fear. But let me declare that God’s provision for our lives and ministries is not dependent upon a prosperous world economy. He can supply our needs in a bad economy just as easily as He can in a prosperous economy. Why? Because our source isn’t an earthly, carnal system but rather a heavenly, God-ordained system. Our Father’s resources are inexhaustible and limitless. We need not worry about our future as we trust in His care for us.

By Joyce M Burkes, FCF Minister “I had my suicide note already written,” said a girl we’ll call Heidi. “I hadn’t been told what the show was about, just that it was a walk-through reality theater.”
With the sparkle in Heidi’s eyes, it was obvious even before she admitted it: “I will never take my own life after what I experienced that night.” Heidi is one of many teenagers whose lives were turned around by a state-of-the-art traveling reality walk-through show. It is a vivid portrayal, room by room, depicting the most common ways that teenagers die every day in the United States. It was designed and produced to help prevent these deaths in the future. At Family Church Conference 2002, Happy Caldwell shared that he was not God’s first choice for starting a church in Little Rock, Arkansas; he was number seven on God’s list! He asked God what happened to the other six people, “Where had they missed it?” And the Lord told him three things: doctrine, immorality, and finances.

Since Erble “Big Mama” Harrison went home to be with the Lord on February 14, I’ve been thinking about family and everything that means. Big Mama was Buddy Harrison’s mother, Pat Harrison’s mother-in-law, and my adopted grandmother.
For 90 years, Big Mama lived a full and vibrant life. She loved her family, and she loved Jesus. Her life was a testimony to God’s goodness and faithfulness. A life lived for 90 years seems like a long time; but it’s really very short in terms of eternity. Each day we miss her, but we also rejoice for her victory over death. Tags: Family | God | love

A couple from your local church has heard God’s call to the mission field. They have pursued the necessary education and acquired sound doctrinal principals. The church body wants to contribute money and pledges a specific monthly amount towards support. Contributions are coming in from friends, relatives, and church members towards this support. The airline tickets are purchased. The missionaries and local church members are excited and looking forward to the great reports from the field.

By Arden C. Autry, PhD It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. —1 Corinthians 15:44-45 NIV
In two previous studies we looked at the meaning of “spiritual” in 1 Corinthians 2-3. We noted the contrast between “spiritual” (pneumatikos) and “natural” or “unspiritual” (psychikos, 2:10-16). Then in chapter 3 we noted the contrast between “spiritual” and “fleshly” or “carnal” (sarkinos and sarkikos). We saw that the psychikos person does not have the Spirit of God. On the other hand, those who have received the Holy Spirit can still think and act in ways Paul describes as sarkinos or sarkikos (3:1-4). In describing Corinthian believers this way, Paul reproves them for spiritual immaturity. Since they have received God’s Spirit, they should display the Spirit’s attitude instead of their worldly, competitive party-strife.

Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him—Psalm 33:8 How can we comprehend the good news of Jesus Christ if we don’t first appreciate the fear of God? Without awe, wonder, reverence and respect for the holy, righteous and just Creator, can we truly appreciate what Jesus Christ, the Son of God, did for us through His death, burial and resurrection?

William Gladstone and Benjamin Disraeli were the fiercest political rivals of Nineteenth Century England. They battled to control the British Empire at the height of its power and glory. One thing separated them: charisma—their approach to people, and their personal charm.
Their difference in charisma is best illustrated by the account of a young woman who dined with the leaders on consecutive nights. When asked about her impressions of the rival politicians, she replied, “When I left the dining room after sitting next to Mr. Gladstone, I thought he was the cleverest man in England. But after sitting next to Mr. Disraeli, I thought I was the cleverest woman in England.”

By use of this title, it is not my intention to expound on the spiritual principle found in the New Testament. Rather, this phrase describes the familial relationship we hope to create within our FCF family, particularly as it relates to our ministers and churches in other parts of the world.
